Toronto Community Champion Award
We're absolutely thrilled to share that the Parkdale Community Food Bank is one of this year's
Toronto Community Champion award recipients!

This incredible recognition is awarded to organizations that go above and beyond to support the health, well-being, and interests of Toronto residents- especially those from Indigenous, Black, and other equity-deserving communities. This recognition is nomination-based, driven by service recipients, not by applications or self-submissions.
Thank you to the City of Toronto, Mayor Olivia Chow, and the United Way of Greater Toronto for recognizing us!

summerlunch+ Partnership

We are excited to be partnering with summerlunch+ to offer our younger community members a unique and fun learning experience this summer!
summerlunch+ is a Toronto-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children through cooking and nutrition education. They aim to 'grow great kids' through comprehensive programming that drives positive lifestyle changes within families, led by children who love to cook and learn about how food builds strong bodies and healthy communities.
The core offering is an 8-week dietitian-led summer program that combines food literacy with hands-on cooking experiences.
Delivered through both live virtual cooking classes and self-paced online modules, the program provides:
Weekly grocery gift cards, ensuring all families can participate without barriers to access.
Live virtual cooking classes led by summerlunch+ leaders
Weekly games and activities to reinforce learning themes
A community platform for kids to connect and learn together
25 vegetarian and halal recipes to prepare three meals or snacks each week
Cooking videos to assist kids in preparing meals independently
The program emphasizes accessibility, sustainability, and empowerment, aiming to instill lifelong healthy eating habits and cooking skills in children.
If you are interested in registering for summerlunch+, we ask that you review the criteria in the enrolment form.
The program runs for 8 weeks starting July 2. You will be provided with an electronic gift card each week. In order to qualify for the gift card, you must either attend the cooking class (cooking along with the group) or post photos of the food you prepared according to the summerlunch+ recipe agenda each week. Cooking classes will be offered twice a day between Tuesday and Thursday each week. You can select a time that works for your household. You will need a caregiver at home during each cooking class to help your child with hot things and to ensure you are keeping pace with the rest of the class.
