Fall Community Newsletter 2024

Thank you for an incredible summer!

This summer we served more community members than ever before! 1 in 10 people in Toronto now rely on food banks to keep their families fed and your support has allowed us to step up and serve our community during these challenging times. Thank you!

Our Summer Celebration

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our Summer Celebration on August 18th! It was a wonderful afternoon filled with great conversations and amazing snacks.

A huge shoutout to Cops Donuts and Evelyn's Crackers for donating the delicious treats, and a massive thank you to Scooter Girl Toys for the fun balloon and sidewalk chalk donations!

We hope to see you all at our next community event!

Rev & Run

We had a blast at the Rev & Run and are excited to report that over $20,000 was raised in support of our programs and services!

A huge thank you to the Rev & Run and Canada Running Series for selecting us as the charitable partner and to all the incredible organizations that sponsored this event. We also want to thank everyone who fundraised and showed up for our community! We couldn't do it without you!

Third Edition of Our Community Cookbook

We are currently accepting recipe submissions for the third edition of our Community Cookbook. For this edition, we are seeking recipes in the following categories:

  • Holiday Favourites: Share your favourite sweet or savoury holiday recipes from any celebration throughout the year!

  • Canned Goods: Show us how you transform canned goods into delicious meals.

  • Root Vegetables: We're looking for recipes that highlight root vegetables

  • 3 Ingredients or Less: Challenge yourself to create a dish with no more than three mandatory ingredients.

  • Beans & Lentils: We're looking for recipes that highlight beans and lentils.

The second edition of our Community Cookbook is currently available to purchase for a pay-what-you-can donation to the food bank at the following businesses:

Make sure to grab a copy before it goes out of print!

All proceeds from the sale of our Community Cookbook go towards our programs and services.

Goodbye Shimona!

Next week we say a heartfelt goodbye to our amazing Operation Manager, Shimona. Since joining in Fall 2022, she has been a vital part of our team, helping to establish our location at 263 Dunn Avenue and expanding our operations to better serve the community.

Shimona always prioritzed our community's needs, from launching a more inclusive food purchasing program to creating the Community Cookbook. She has also raised funds and awareness for our mission by taking part in various runs. Her dedication and sunny spirit will be greatly missed, but we're excited for her next adventure. Shimona, you'll always have a home with us at PCFB.
